Happy New Year everyone! Finally back to work practicing my treatments here in Boston. Here is a recap on the Manja Kizhi . I worked on a client this past weekend who has suffered from chronic shoulder/neck pain. Manja Kizhi is an effective treatment for the management of severe pain and swelling due to diseases like gout, arthritis etc. There are many analgesic herbs that are typically known for their analgesic properties of giving relief from joint pains like those felt in arthritis, neck and back pain, or tendonitis. In fact, these therapeutic herbs are anti- inflammatory herbs and treat the pain conditions that result from inflammation of joints. Prior to this treatment an oil massage "Abhyanga" is done.
Today I was fortunate to receive an Ayurvedic Abhyanga as part of my training today. Abhyanga in Sanskrit literally means "oil massage". This is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves massage of the body with copious amounts of warm medicated oil specific to the individual. Many times an Abhyanga is performed by two massage therapists working in sync or can be done by one practitioner. Various types of oils can be used on the body depending on the individuals health.
An Abhyanga unlike western massage therapies are not very deep but characterized by their rhythmic fast strokes that aid in calming the mind.
After the treatment you bathe and are advised to relax for the remainder of the day, and that is exactly what I am doing!
