Dhumapana is a smoking practice that has been around for over 2,000 years, it literally means "drinking smoke". This pipes heated mixture contains turmeric, ghee, black pepper and licorice that forms a peanut butter like consistency that you spread on the cloth.
The cloth is rolled very tightly and tied at the end to hold in the medicine. Heat the pipe for 10-12 minutes to ensure that the medicines are all properly being burned. Once ready you would use a cone "like a birthday hat" to funnel the smoke into the nostril. You never inhale the smoke, you inhale from one nostril and then breathe out and repeat on the other side. This treatment has been most helpful with removing mucus in the body and alleviating headaches. It was quite powerful!
